by Rehana Nurali

Maria Borges, a model who made history in 2015 as the first model to walk the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show with her short natural curls, is now announced as the new face of L'oreal Paris.

Maria recently walked for major shows like La Perla, Badgley Mischka, Brandon Maxwell and Ralph Lauren. Now she's the new ambassador of L'oreal Paris, a brand that she's already worked before and for which she did this year's Skin Campaign.

In light of this news, Maria Borges said in a statement "I believe in the beauty of diversity and the empowering message that a girl who started from the bottom can be an international beauty symbol and be the living proof that our dreams are valid and the future ahead of us is bright".

SS 2017 FASHION WEEKS: THE CATCH

Starting in New York and ending in Paris, the fashion season is over and now we can all sit back and enjoy the spring summer trends. But there’s more to see than the eye can catch and, yes, we are talking about the models.

This season, We Are Models, an agency based in Lisbon, placed models in all the major fashion weeks. Beginning with New York, Milena Garbo walked for Adam Selman, Tibi and Naeem Khan. Followed by Maria Borges who walked for Jeremy Scott, Oscar de La Renta and Brandon Maxwell. The Ukrainian Nelli Virchenko walked for Cushnie et Ochs and Vivenne Tam.

In London, the new face Sigrid Vieira made her debut on international runways, turning heads at Paul Smith Fashion Show.

Milan was a sweet week for Polina Litvinova, who closed for Luisa Beccaria and Isis Bataglia walking for Elisabetta Franchi. However, Josiane Monteiro was the one who stole the spotlights, opening for Leitmotiv and walking for Aigner, Vivetta and Stella Jean.

Closing the season in Paris, Josiane Monteiro walked for Issey Miyake while Maria Borgers glided through the runway at Balmain, Armani and Chanel.
